Start with the Sun, end with the Sun

All the planets in an individual’s horoscope blend their energies together, but the main focus when reading a horoscope should be the Sun. The Sun is the King, and all the other planets have to obey to him and to support his well-being. When the King (Sun) is well supported, he experiences good health, vitality and happiness.

This means that when one embodies the positive energies of the Sun, which should be supported by the energies of the other planets, one feels energized and HAPPY.

When reading a horoscope, looking at the sign your Sun is in at the moment you were born is a great start!

What does the sign of the Sun reveal?

1) I am becoming (my Authentic Self)...

The Sun in astrology says “ I am…” and its position in the natal chart, in sign and house, reveals various qualities about oneself (sign) and the place one experiences and treasures these qualities most (house).

However, and here it gets really interesting. The Sun is NOT who you are, but the one you would like to become. Maybe it is more accurate to think of the Sun’s message as “ I am BECOMING…”. Even during your early childhood, you are likely to embody some of the qualities expressed by the Sun, but you are not fully identifying yourself with the Sun. As you grow up, become an independent adult, and build your own life, you are continuously learning to incorporate more and more Sun qualities… In other words, you are BECOMING more and more your Authentic Self. Becoming your Authentic Self, as expressed by the qualities involved in the Sun’s sign, you are accomplishing your main life mission. This is one big reason you were born, your wonderful adventure towards your true self and your true identity in this lifetime. When you accomplish this mission, becoming more and more like your Authentic Self, you feel truly happy, enthusiastic and full of vitality.

2) Personal will and self-expression

Sun represents self-expression. People express themselves upon the energies reflected in the Sun sign’s qualities.

Apart from self-expression, Sun also represents one’s will. Every individual has free will and upon free will, they make choices in life. The sign of the Sun shows what psychological believes stay at the basis of individual choices.

3) Integrity

Sun also represents one’s standards of integrity, values and principles. The sign Sun is in shows what values and principles people embrace, and what their main standards of integrity are, after which they conduct themselves in life.

It is interesting that people tend to identify themselves with the values and principles of the Sun sign. This happens because Sun says “ I am…(becoming)”.

So for example, let’s consider the Sun in Gemini. Sun is integrity, values and principles. Some of the Gemini keywords are “objectivity, thinking, communication”. Therefore, a Gemini Sun person may believe that “I am (Sun) what I think (Gemini). I am (Sun) what I communicate (Gemini). I am (Sun) an objective person (Gemini).” Such a person may identify herself with the way she thinks and expresses her thoughts, with the way she speaks, with her role as a communicator.

You may be asking “is this good or bad”? Well, if we think in terms of “good” or “bad”, we may not get an accurate answer.

On a human level, this should be okay, as long as you are feeling empowered by identifying yourself with something.

On a spiritual level, people are more than what they do, believe or say. They are a perfect, infinite energy playing a character (Sun) on the stage of life. But this is just a role, it’s just a mask they need to embody in this lifetime. The Sun shows one’s life purpose in this incarnation, but this purpose is like one phrase we need to memorize in order to play beautifully on the stage. After the play is over, we go back to where we belong, where there are no roles and where all is one and one is all.

How to get in touch with your Sun’s energy

Define your standards of integrity, your values and principles. Be true to yourself. Try not to be influenced by other people’s values, because their values may not be compatible with your own. Think about what makes you happy, energized, alive. What are the values you could not survive without? What do you base your decisions on? What qualities do you most admire in others? What would you like to become? You could rate each value/quality and consider which ones are most important to you. In your final answer, you may choose between various qualities and consider up to 5 most important ones. These would be your standards of integrity.
